Claire Holland signed Armed Forces Pledge 2026-10-11 12:39:07 +0100Thank you so very much for your service and sacrifice to keep our country safe. My grandfather was Sergeant James Henry Evason of the Grenadier Guards and he died on 10th September 1943, during the Salerno Landings in Italy. Members from every generation of my family, since then, have been to the war graves to visit him and let him know he is not forgotten. I never met him in life, but I love him very much and am proud to be his granddaughter. I hope that the veterans of today can know that this applies to them also. The inscription on my grandfather’s grave stone reads, ‘To live in the hearts of those who loved him is not to die.’
